What does lens category mean?
RIA creates different lenses for different lighting conditions. As such, each lens has a filter category listed on its respective product page on our website that correlates with its luminous transmission. Please see table below for when and when not, to use each filter category.
Filter Category | Luminous Transmission Range | Description | Usage |
| 0 | 80%-100% | Clear/light tint sunglass | Very limited reduction of sunglare |
| 1 | 43%-80% | Light tint sunglass | Limited protection against sunglare |
| 2 | 18%-43% | General purpose sunglass | Good protection against sunglare |
| 3 | 8-18% | General purpose sunglass | High protection against sunglare |
| 4 | 3%-8% | Very dark special purpose sunglass, very high sunglare reduction | Very high protection against extreme sunglare, e.g. at sea, over snow fields, on high mounts or in a desert |
